1. Based on out challenge what are possible pathways for growth in this area?
I would like to make a suggestion that we begin to * the ideas that we think we could or should start working on immediately.

Create a brainstorm list of possible pathways that you think will lead to growth.
a. Apply for grant so we have one on one laptops Who has time to write grants?
b. Apply for a grant to have technology training for all teachers. We have people on staff that could pull off training. I'm not sure that a grant is needed. What is needed is time. I don't see people wanting to stay after school, especially since the administration has added meeting times after school and in the middle school --- they're meetings are lasting to 4:30 p.m.
*c. Survey students about their tech use. Didn't Jude do this last spring with mixed results?Yes she did. Maybe we should look at the survey she put together add/edit/etc...and think of ways we can get all students to get involved. Maybe "advertise" it as a move forward on how we can include allowing them to have personal laptops, cell phones, etc....in a collaboration between students and adults?
d. Deliberately Teach/model/practice appropriate use of technology (Clarify “appropriate”)
e. Each faculty member will have a technology integration goal
f. Peer to peer teaching appropriate technology useIf professional development is required (or needed), I would like to see it happen in a similar fashion to our Culture and Curriculum meetings. Designate a time and devote specific times, dates and specific activities related to technology. I'm not sure that unless professional development is mandated by the administration it will happen on the scale that we're discussing. Just my opinion.
i. Can we teach students about appropriate use when we block the use? Rethink Facebook block? I would include Skype and some other 21 Century tools to that list that currently get blocked.What about Twitter? Is that blocked? Do students even use it?
j. Poll PA graduates on the technology skills they have needed since they left and whether or not PA has prepared them.
k. advocate for a technology budget that will sustain growth in this area.
l. This may be rather long for a brainstorm but they are some issues from the "supply side" of the educational process...
a) There needs to be a communication and sign up process for teachers as they consider projects. If three teachers assign two blocks of students each an assignment requiring a flip video camera and I have only 6 flip videos... (you do the math)
b) If I am working with a class during a block and as I instruct, I see seven students standing in a line to check out videocameras....they are frustrated and so am I . Teachers need to communicate with me if they will be sending groups of students up.
c) Teachers should have some knowledge of the technology that they are asking students to use....That's just good educational practice.
d) Many schools have an educational technologist to provide support..... You have one ... me and we had one ... Mark Arnold
*m. Look at NET*S Standards and evaluate how well we are doing in "teaching" to them. Identify classes where teaching to the standard could be "deliberate".

I think we need to model wiki use with variety of meetings that people have - I have heard plenty of requests for setting up one, and interest in becoming more familiar with the uses of wikis from lots of people... lets set this as an easy goal! (Martha here...I would add blogs and Google Docs...Wikis are not the best tool for every application.)
o. In the wake of the Rutgers tragedy, I think that we need to teach about cyberbullying :Rutgers CBS coverage I agree. That is one thing I have not heard come up in conversation about all of the bullying (I meant to bring it up in the meeting with Phil).
